Urban-Nature Symbiosis in the District of Laranjeiras - Rio de Janeiro
"Laranjeiras: Urban-Nature Symbiosis" reimagines Rio de Janeiro's Laranjeiras neighborhood by harmoniously blending nature with urbanism. Inspired by the contrasting coexistence observed at the A86 interchange, the project introduces multi-scale interventions to foster a dynamic relationship between the surrounding forest and dense urban fabric. At the neighborhood level, dual-level walkways connect urban forest pockets, creating community activity hubs and natural spaces. Architecturally, a repurposed apartment building integrates nurseries, open communal areas, and tree-like columns, symbolizing nature. These columns provide immersive pathways for residents, enhancing their connection with greenery. The project redefines public and private spaces, showcasing how traditionally opposing worlds can coexist and enrich each other.
